How Far Is Dorset Gardens From the MRT and the City?

How far is Dorset Gardens from the nearest MRT station and the city centre?

Roughly 330 metres to Farrer Park MRT station, which is a walk of about four to five minutes. From the platform, Dhoby Ghaut is two stops, Clarke Quay three and Chinatown four. Dorset Gardens is genuinely a walk-to-MRT address rather than a loosely-described one, and that is the attribute most likely to hold its value over the life of the lease.

The Walk Itself

Three hundred and thirty metres is short enough that the walk stays a walk. It does not become a taxi in the rain, and it does not require a feeder bus. That threshold matters more than the raw number: the practical difference between 330 metres and 900 metres is not twice the walk, it is whether you use the station by default or only when convenient.

Dorset Road runs between Rangoon Road and Owen Road, and the route to the Farrer Park entrance is through established residential streets rather than along an arterial road.

Where the North East Line Takes You

Farrer Park is station NE8. Southbound, Little India is one stop, Dhoby Ghaut two, Clarke Quay three, Chinatown four, Outram Park five and HarbourFront eight. Northbound, Boon Keng is one, Potong Pasir two, Woodleigh three and Serangoon four.

For the Central Business District specifically, the useful stops are Clarke Quay and Chinatown at three and four stops, with Raffles Place reachable via a change at Dhoby Ghaut or Outram Park depending on which corner of the CBD you need. Orchard is three stops in total with one change at Dhoby Ghaut.

The Two Interchanges Within Two Stops

This is the part that gets undersold. Dhoby Ghaut, two stops south, is a triple interchange with the North South and Circle lines. Little India, one stop north, connects to the Downtown Line, which reaches Bugis, Promenade and Bayfront without touching Dhoby Ghaut.

Two different interchanges within one and two stops gives you an alternative route when one line has a disruption, which single-interchange addresses do not. Our Farrer Park MRT guide works through the line in detail.

Driving From Dorset Gardens

The Central Expressway entrance off Kampong Java Road is the primary link, running north toward Ang Mo Kio and Seletar and south into the city. The Pan-Island Expressway handles cross-island journeys east and west, which puts Changi within a straightforward run.

The practical effect for a two-person household is that one person can commute by rail into the city while the other drives somewhere entirely different without either journey being awkward. That is a specific kind of flexibility that suburban addresses with one good rail line and one congested road do not offer.

Buses

The nearest bus stop is about 130 metres from the site. Both the Serangoon Road and Rangoon Road corridors carry frequent services toward the city and toward Novena and Toa Payoh, which covers the journeys the rail map handles awkwardly.

What This Means for Value

Proximity to a rail station is the property attribute that has held up most consistently across Singapore market cycles, and it is one of the few that cannot be replicated by a competing development later. A new project can match a facilities deck or a specification schedule; it cannot move itself 330 metres from an MRT station.

On a 99-year lease running from October 2025, that durability matters. The buyer in 2045 will be assessing the same walk. For the full connectivity picture see the location page, and for the surrounding streets our District 8 guide.
